چکیده
Apophysomyces variabilis is an emerging fungal pathogen that can cause significant infections in immunocompetent patients. We report a case of A. variabilis invasive wound infection in a 21-year-old male after a self-inflicted burn injury.

Aggressive cutaneous zygomycosis caused by Apophysomyces variabilis in an immunocompetent child
A zygomycetous fungus was observed in a biopsy of a 9-year-old male. The patient was presented with severe cutaneous lesions subsequent to a traumatic car accident. Following fungal detection, antifungal treatment was prescribed but condition deteriorated rapidly and above knee amputation was done as lifesaving and to control fungal infection. Analysis of the 28 S rRNA gene (accession KT149770)...
متن کاملInvasive Fungal Infection with Absidia Corymbifera in Immunocompetent Patient with Electrical Scalp Burn
Invasive fungal infection in burn injury is caused by inoculation of fungal spore from patient skin, respiratory tract or from care giver. The risk factors for acquiring fungal infection in burns include age of burns, total burn size, full thickness burns, inhalational injury, prolonged hospital stay, late surgical excision, open dressing, central venous catheters, antibiotics, steroid treatmen...
متن کاملEfficacy of posaconazole in a murine model of disseminated infection caused by Apophysomyces variabilis.
OBJECTIVES We evaluated the in vitro activity of posaconazole and amphotericin B against several clinical strains of the mucoralean fungus Apophysomyces variabilis, and their efficacy in a murine model of disseminated infection caused by that fungus. METHODS The in vitro susceptibility of seven strains of A. variabilis to posaconazole and amphotericin B was determined by using a broth microdi...
متن کاملMaxillary Osteomyelitis Caused by Apophysomyces Variabilis - Emerging Trends
In the maxillofacial skeleton, chronic osteomyelitis is more often observed in the mandible than maxilla. Maxillary osteomyelitis is rare because of its rich blood supply. It is usually seen in individuals with impaired immune response, uncontrolled diabetes and hospitalized patients. It can be caused by bacterial, fungal or viral infections. We report a rare case of maxillary osteomyelitis cau...
متن کاملBurn wound zygomycosis caused by Apophysomyces elegans.
A case of zygomycosis caused by Apophysomyces elegans in a patient having 25% full-thickness burns is described. Amputation of the leg was necessary to control rapid tissue invasion. The fungus was isolated from soil in the burn environment.
